Most charming about good Syrah wines is their heady fruit profile.  Sea Ridge Syrah is no exception.  The wine is abundant with blackberry, black cherry, and plum flavors.  This richness is nicely balanced with velvety tannins that linger on the palate.  Enjoy this friendly wine with barbequed meats and spicy dishes from the Mediterranean.

Initial Comments:
Well, the label says "Napa, CA" but online sources say they grow in Bodega Bay, CA. Granted, that's not that far from Napa but it's not that close either. Oakland is about the same distance away and I can imagine what grapes grown in Oakland might taste like. eeeeeewwww. Well it's hard to complain about anything drinkable for $5- let alone when Pavillions has a 2 for 1 sale on it. That's right- $2.50 each. I thought I was going to end up with something not even fit for cooking. What a surprise that the first sip didn't make me gag. Actually, this is definitely one of the better (really cheap) Syrah's that I've had recently. It's a little thin but definitely has nice fruity characteristics and went really well with tacos. I gave it a 5 not really considering the price. If the Wine Spectator were to rate this considering the ($2.50) price, they might have to give it a 90. I guess I'll save my other bottle for some spicy barbeque. I wonder if it gets better with age. ;)
